Wednesday, February 4: UBC Indigenous Career Fair 2026

Considering summer work opportunities or a pathway into a career post-graduation? Indigenous students are invited to attend the third annual Indigenous Career Fair, hosted by the First Nations House of Learning and UBC Career Centre. Organizations representing a variety of sectors will offer insights into summer internship openings, discuss career opportunities, and shed light on their respective workplace cultures.

Mock Interview Clinic

Want to practice your job interview skills before it really counts? Facilitated by select participating organizations, a mock interview clinic will be held at the Longhouse prior to the event from 12:30–2pm. Each mock interview will take approximately 25–30 minutes and will consist of a 20-minute interview followed by 5–10 minutes of personalized feedback.


Thursday, March 5: FNHL Presents: White water canoeing down the rivers of Indigenous Literature!?!? A Talk by Drew Hayden Taylor

The First Nations House of Learning presents a special talk by acclaimed Indigenous writer and humourist Drew Hayden Taylor, who will take you on a journey covering his literary career and other endeavours. Born and raised on the Curve Lake First Nation, he has done everything from performing stand-up comedy at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC to serving as Artistic Director for Canada’s leading Indigenous theatre company, Native Earth Performing Arts.

Iron Dog Books will be on site selling books. A door prize draw includes a chance to win one of three $100 UBC Bookstore gift cards. This event will be video recorded.

Term 2, Winter Session 2025/26


Tuesdays | Yoga and Breath Work with Dr. Rosalin Miles

Indigenous students, faculty, and staff are invited to join drop-in yoga and breath work classes led by Dr. Rosalin Miles, Research Associate, Indigenous Studies, School of Kinesiology. Each session offers a wonderful opportunity to escape academic pressures and find relaxation through yoga and breath work exercises. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided to participants who need them.

For Term 2, 2025W, classes are offered every Tuesday—with the exception of March 17th and 24th—and conclude on April 7th.

Wednesdays | Active Spirit Walk/Run Club

Indigenous students, faculty, and staff are invited to stay active through the Active Spirit Walk/Run Club. Whether you want to walk, run, or learn to run, 45-minute weekly group sessions are held every Wednesday and conclude on April 8th. Indigenous students at any level who have formally self-identified to UBC as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit can access the šxʷta:təχʷəm student space, located in the west wing of the Longhouse. Simply tap your UBC card at the south side entrance to gain entry. There, you will be greeted by šxʷta:təχʷəm advisors who are ready to host and welcome you with a range of events and activities:


February 2–13: Clothing Swap @ šxʷta:təχʷəm

Stop by šxʷta:təχʷəm during open hours to swap clean clothing with fellow students and pick up something new! This initiative promotes free slow fashion for and by students. Please note that socks, undergarments, and piercing jewelry will not be accepted.


Tuesday, February 3: Drumstick Making

Join advisor Gonii from 4–7pm to learn how to create your own drumsticks, which you can bring to the Weekly Drum Circle. Supplies will be provided.

Thursday, February 5: Sewing Club: Wristlet Keychains

Join advisor Penny from 1–3pm for a šxʷta:təχʷəm Sewing Club session, where students will learn how to make their own wristlet keychain. Upcycle from a selection of fabrics or bring your own fabric scraps to upcycle. Sewing experience is not required.

Thursday, February 13: Beaded Hearts

Need a last-minute gift for Valentine’s Day? Join šxʷta:təχʷəm advisor Emily from 1–3pm to create beaded hearts that can be used as earrings, pins, or keychains to share with friends and family. Supplies will be provided.


Tuesday, February 24: Monthly Community Dinner

Drop by šxʷta:təχʷəm from 5–6:30pm for this month’s community dinner! Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by your advisors with other students. This month’s hosts are advisors Jess, Kylie, and Logan.

Thursdays | Weekly Drum Circle 

Join šxʷta:təχʷəm advisors Jaz and Gonii on Thursdays, 4–6pm for a weekly drum circle. Indigenous students are invited to bring their drums, rattles, songs, stories, or whatever form of expression speaks to you. First-time learners are encouraged to join.


Fridays | Weekly Beading Circle

Join šxʷta:təχʷəm advisors Emily and Jess on Fridays, 3–5pm for a weekly beading circle, where you can share and learn beading techniques while connecting with fellow students. Whether you want to bring a current project or start something new, all skills levels are welcome.
