Many of the most important academic resources you will find on the UBC campus are located in Faculties.
Professors, teaching assistants and other instructors are often willing to spend extra time with interested students, and other students with similar interests are great sources of information and support.

Aboriginal Health Initiative
The Aboriginal Health Initiative (AHI) is a student run organization that aims to increase awareness among future health practitioners on issues related to Aboriginal health.
Indigenous Portal
The Indigenous Portal’s “Students” section has information on various learning opportunities available at UBC Vancouver that maybe of interest to Indigenous learners. This includes information on Indigenous programs, experiental learning options, professional programs, and the Indigenous Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program.
Indigenous Undergraduate Student Research Mentorship
The Indigenous Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program is for Indigenous undergraduates who wish to gain a glimpse into the world of research by being paired with a faculty member on campus. This involves a four-month mentorship program (January-April) in which students receive guided experience in a research setting related to their field of interest.
Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement (SAGE)
SAGE provides support and networking opportunities for Aboriginal graduate students throughout the University and province.
Tutoring
AMS Tutoring – Are you a first or second-year student? If so, AMS Tutoring is there for you to make sure you have the skills and support you need to tackle your work confidently. This doesn’t mean they’re going do your homework for you, but it does mean they can help you with coursework, assignments, exam reviews and more!
Longhouse Tutoring – Weekly drop-in group tutoring sessions are available at the Longhouse for Indigenous students taking courses in biology, chemistry (1st yr), economics, math, physics, and statistics. Writing consultation sessions are also offered.
Science Indigenous Student Services and Support – Indigenous students taking one or more science or math courses are eligible for subsidized tutoring. Contact the Academic Advisor, Indigenous Students for the tutoring schedule at the UBC First Nations Longhouse.
UBC Libraries & Xwi7xwa Library
UBC’s extensive library system is also an important source of advice and help, both online and on-site. All UBC library branches have research librarians on staff who can help you locate materials and devise search strategies. If you are working on an Indigenous topic, be sure to visit Xwi7xwa Library, a special branch of the UBC system, located adjacent to the Longhouse, that specializes in Indigenous collections and research. It has materials that you will use everyday, and research librarians on staff who can help you locate materials you might not otherwise find.
